It’s true that we should be giving to where we are being fed spiritually (Gal 6:6-8) – but that’s just one of our priorities. We are also responsible for making sure the ground we sow into is fertile ground. The poor and needy as well as other worthy causes are often neglected in the ‘10% minimum must go to my local church’ mindset.
There is no formula given in the New Testament! – only principles. Just follow God’s instructions – be open to being led by the Holy Spirit and/or your own heart (2 Cor 9:7), according to His principles for giving as laid out in the New Testament.
He wants us to give to:
Those who feed us the Word of God
The poor and needy
Those who are spreading the Gospel of His Kingdom
… and anyone else He leads us or our hearts lead us to give to!
